3 Bats 101

Supplies:
6 sheets of black felt
Poly-fill
Sewing machine or needle & thread
Buttons for eyes optional
1 Drawing of a bat

Directions:
*Take the drawing of a bat and cut out. Use this as your template.
*Draw the bat template onto the black felt.
*Place the 6 bats into 3 piles. Now you have 3 bats.
*Starting at the bottom wing, sew along the wing, head and down
the other wing. Leave bottom open for stuffing.
*Sew the bottom edge.
*Use string to hang the bats around your house.
We hung our bats upside down, sideways, and horizontal
for the ultimate effect.

2 Ghosts 101
Halloween decorations can be expensive.
This year, we compromised, buy spooky lights and make the rest. Below I will show you how even a 4 year can help put together some creepy crawly ghosts and bats in about an hour.(Includes hanging on display and sitting back to enjoy your creation.)

Supplies:

2 plastic grocery bags
Fluffy Poly-fill (craft shop)
1 white fitted sheet
Sewing Machine or Hand stitch
Yarn or string

Directions:

*Cut the fitted sheet in half. With right sides together, take one elastic corner and fold it in half.
*Sew the elastic corner flat. Cut of the other elastic corner.
*Do this for each ghost.
*Stuff your 2 bags with Poly-fill. Stuff the filled bags inside each elastic corner.
*Using a string, push out all the air, gather the bag and tie a few knots.
*This is your ghosty's head!
*Use a magic marker to draw big eyes and a howling mouth.
*Hang in front of your house and watch your ghosts blow in the autumn wind.

PDX Adult Soap Box Derby at Mt. Tabor

Our very own "Hedgehog Hiker" company is proud to have been a sponsor at this years annual "PDX Adult Soap Box Derby" at Mt. Tabor park. Our friends Heather and Bill asked if I would be interested in sponsoring a collaborative Soap Box car in this years race. Of course!!!! Bill made a wicked stencil of Hedgehog and painted it onto the vehicle. It was a race to the finish and oh so much fun to cheer on the little green car!

Bargain Hunting 101 at The Crystal Ballroom

Hedgehog Hiker joined forces with other talented vendors for the "Bargain Hunting 101" shopping spree hosted at The Crystal Ballroom. The show is put on twice a year by "Frock" at NE Alberta Street.

It was so much fun to see familiar faces and make new contacts. My neighbors were so much fun to talk with throughout the afternoon. Hope everyone is staying cool.

The “Hedgehog Hiker” Story

These pants are made with soft waterproof breathable fabric and
partially lined with recycled cotton t-shirts. The combination keeps
your little baby dry and warm. I designed these pants after noticing
that my baby’s legs were always wet and cold during our Portland
winter walks. All the pant legs would become too short when sitting
in a stroller or a hiking back pack.

Hedgehog Hiker pants are designed to fit extra long. For everyday
use, wear the folded cuff “up”. When it is time to venture outdoors,
wear the cuff “down”. This extra couple inches really helps keep little
ankles cozy and provides parents confidence to enjoy some fresh air.
There is an adjustable waistband and awesome big pocket for
treasures.

A sustainable product and business; “Hedgehog Hiker LLC.” pants
are made using material milled in the USA, recycled fibers, and eco-
friendly print methods. 80% of the materials are purchased locally
from vendors in the Pacific Northwest.

So get a pair and get hiking!

I've been busy at "Seamstress for Hire". My new client brought in her favorite skirt. I made a pattern from the skirt and sewed 2 NEW "Skirts with a Drawstring" and side slit big enough to climb into your pickup truck!

Welcome to "Hedgehog Hiker" and the home of "Seamstress for Hire" posts.

Hedgehog Hiker's are the hiking pants every parent has been waiting for. These children's pants will keep your baby's legs warm, dry, and stay in place! The pant legs are designed to not ride up, when baby is placed in a backpack carrier or stroller. The idea was born in October 2007 while hiking with my husband, baby, and 2 other families. I intend to make it possible for children to go hiking in comfort and style! Best of all, the pants are made with water repellent and recycled fabric. Coming soon.... in 2009.

My "Seamstress for Hire" following has really taken off. There are plenty of people in the neighborhood needing clothing alterations. It is special to keep the art of sewing alive and help people enjoy the clothes they already own.
